A Carrollton, TX Family
Welcomes Baby Number TwoNewborn & Sibling Photos

There is something so special about welcoming a family back with a new baby, especially when the little one I once photographed as a newborn is now the big brother. This Carrollton, TX family has been part of the Lama’s Littles story for a long time. I photographed their older son as a newborn, then celebrated his first birthday with a cake smash session. This time, they returned to my Allen studio as a family of four.
We had a new little face to get to know and a very important big brother to include. Mom wanted a neutral, cohesive gallery, and family connection was at the center of our plans.
From his newborn photographs to becoming a big brother
One of my favorite parts of photographing returning families is seeing how much life has changed between visits. The baby from those first newborn portraits now has his own ideas, his own energy, and a new role in the family.
For this session, I wanted to make room for both boys. There were quiet photographs of their newest little one, but we spent a lot of our time together on family portraits and the connection between parents, big brother, and baby. These photographs hold a little piece of what becoming a family of four felt like for them.

A little running, a little silliness, and plenty of toddler energy
Newborn photos with a toddler sibling rarely involve everyone sitting still for the whole session. We ran around, tried to be silly, and found little ways to keep big brother involved. A wooden toy camera and a wicker chair helped give him something to do and somewhere to settle between those bursts of energy.
I wanted him to feel included in the fun. We worked with his curiosity and gave him reasons to stay engaged, moving between playful moments and the quieter photographs we were hoping for. That flexibility made room for his personality in the gallery.

The upside-down sibling photograph
One of the sweetest playful moments came when Dad held big brother upside down for a sibling photograph. His little face appeared beside his sleeping baby brother, giving us a picture full of personality.
It was such a lovely way to bring their two different stages together: a toddler ready for fun and a newborn peacefully taking it all in. Family connection can look like a quiet cuddle, but sometimes it looks like Dad joining in with a wonderfully silly idea.

Warm neutrals for a timeless family gallery
Mom’s wish for neutrals gave us a beautiful starting point. The parents chose warm browns and soft neutral tones for their family photographs, with a gentle checked pattern on big brother that worked beautifully alongside them.
The colors felt coordinated without everyone needing to wear the same thing. Against the cream tones in the studio, they kept the attention on the family’s faces, their closeness, and the baby in their arms. That palette also carried naturally into the newborn portraits, helping the gallery feel connected from one photograph to the next.
If you’re planning your own family’s outfits, starting with a few colors that work together can make the process feel simpler. My family dress guide has more ideas for creating that kind of cohesion.

A cooperative little baby and room for both kinds of moments
Their new baby was so cooperative, giving us lovely opportunities for his own portraits alongside the family photographs. His quiet newborn moments brought a gentle balance to the running, laughter, and toddler silliness around him.
That mix is what I love about this gallery. It holds the softness of a new baby and the busy, playful life of the family welcoming him. Big brother’s energy belongs in that story just as much as his baby brother’s tiny details.

Planning newborn photos with your own growing family
If you’re welcoming another baby and wondering how your toddler will manage a newborn session, you don’t need to arrive with a child who knows how to sit perfectly for the camera. Tell me what they enjoy, what helps them warm up, and the family moments you’d most love to remember. We can plan with their personality in mind.
For this Carrollton family, the gallery grew out of familiar faces, beautiful neutral colors, a cooperative newborn, and plenty of play. Getting to photograph their second baby after their older son’s newborn and cake smash sessions made this visit especially meaningful to me.
