Whether you're celebrating six months, one year, or simply documenting this beautiful stage of childhood, this guide will help you prepare for a relaxed, joyful experience and beautiful photographs you'll treasure for years to come.
General Tips

Let Them Be Themselves
Every child has their own personality. Some jump right in while others need a little time to warm up. There is no pressure to smile on command, we work at your child's pace to capture genuine expressions and natural moments.

Schedule Around Nap Time
A well-rested child is usually much happier during their session. Whenever possible, schedule around your child's normal nap schedule to help them feel their best.

Feed Them Before Arriving
A full tummy goes a long way! We recommend feeding your child before arriving and bringing a few non-messy snacks if they need a quick break during the session.

Keep the Morning Relaxed
Try not to over-schedule before your appointment. A calm morning usually leads to a calmer child and a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Bare Feet are Perfect
Tiny toes are part of what makes this stage so special. Bare feet create a soft, natural look and work beautifully in studio.

Bring the Essentials
Pack extra wipes, a towel, water, diapers, and a change of clothes for both baby and yourself just in case.

Snacks & Toys Help
Bring a few non-messy snacks and a favorite toy or comfort item to help with transitions or warm-ups.

Less Is More
Too many people watching can be overwhelming. One or two calm adults is perfect for a smooth session.
Cake Smash Tips

Prep Your Baby for Cake
A few days before, let them try a mini cupcake or a bit of frosting so the cake isn’t a total surprise. Some babies aren’t sure about the texture or sweetness at first.

Extra Outfit = Lifesaver
Please bring an extra outfit for you (the parent!) specifically for the cake smash. Things will get messy (in the best way) and a clean change helps wrap things up smoothly.

Choose Your Setup
You can opt for a floor setup or a high chair for the cake smash. The high chair is great if you're worried about your little one running around. Both look adorable in photos.

Keep It Simple
A small 4 to 6 inch cake with soft, whipped frosting (no fondant or hard decorations) is ideal. Avoid toothpicks or candies that could pose a hazard.

Go Easy on the Color
Lighter frosting colors like white, cream, or pastels photograph beautifully and are easier to clean than darker colors like red or blue.

Not All Babies Love Cake
Some little ones aren’t into the texture or taste and that’s totally normal. Bring small, familiar snacks like puffs or blueberries that can be tucked behind or on top of the cake to encourage interaction. I’ll make sure they’re easy to edit out later.

Messy Is the Goal
Whether they dive right in or just curiously poke, we’ll capture all the giggles, smears, and sweet reactions.

Clean up is on us!
I’ve got the setup and cleanup covered. Just bring clean-up items for baby. Wipes, a towel, and a fresh outfit will go a long way.

Don’t worry if your toddler isn’t all smiles. We’ll work around their mood and always find the magic.
